Now more than ever! 🎥🎬ðŸŽ
And we’re back! February 2023 and already so many firsts!
Welcome to my first newsletter where I’ll share insights, musings, tips, showcases, recommendations, classes, and events. Thank you for being here. We are back in the room for scene study and technique in Los Angeles with an inspired group of actors. People are excited to see each other in person after an unexpected, yet profound experience working together on Zoom. I am grateful for the technology while in the midst of physical separation; it enabled us to stay connected and in the moment. Folks were working from Australia to Russia and Utah to Pennsylvania. It’s a gift to sit in our homes worldwide and still connect in one room on Zoom. I met and trained actors I would not have otherwise worked with and known. Knowing the digital world is here to stay, we will continue classes on Zoom, starting with Friday’s ongoing Moment-to-Moment connection class. Stay in touch to hear about upcoming online Scene and Technique classes, private coaching, and self-tapes.
Meanwhile, we’re in the room together each week for Scene Study in Koreatown, and Technique in Playa Vista starts this month. The physical connection in the room is grand. Being in our bodies, while stretching and breathing together in the same space is intimate and vital. We’re on our feet, full-body engaged, experiencing one another in real-time, and utilizing that energy to dive into the work.
Whether you write, act, or direct, it’s time to engage. It’s through our interaction with each other that we discover the self. The work of truth, authenticity, and connection is needed now more than ever. In the room — in person or via zoom — we ground our energy, look into each other’s eyes, shed the masks, and live in the truth of the moment. Pilot season is upon us, and in class you can sharpen your instrument, increase your agility, and nourish your talent. After three-plus decades doing this work, there’s no doubt, the artists are the ones who change the world. This is the heart of the IKC Method.
Let’s see each other this month,
Iris
